Immunization
Immunisation is a key intervention for disease prevention under Anganwadi Services scheme. The aim of immunisation is reduction of infant and child mortality. Immunisation helps in promoting health and therefore is a vital component in the six services under Anganwadi services.
Immunization of infants and children protects children from - Poliomyelitis, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Tuberculosis, Measles, Hepatitis B and Hib. These are major preventable causes of child mortality, disability, morbidity and related malnutrition. Immunization of pregnant women against tetanus reduces maternal and neonatal mortality. The fixed immunisation day for our State is Wednesday at AWCs. The AWWs assist the health functionaries in coverage of the target population for immunization. She helps in the organization of fixed-day immunization sessions, maintains the immunization register and follows up to ensure full coverage.
